Information Literacy Activity One

Information Literacy Activity One

This is a great course, a wonderful model for teaching students to be information literate: how to comprehend, use, and evaluate information. Some might say that in the time of budget cuts, libraries and librarians aren’t needed because everything in on the internet. I believe that because everything is on the internet information literacy skills are even more important. There is so much information out there, we all need to learn effective searching skills to save time, know how to evaluate information so that we only find valid information, comprehend what we find so that the information is usable, and know how to use what we learn. Librarians are important trained professionals that know how to teach this valuable life long skill to students. Libraries become even more important to help reduce the digital divide, giving access to the internet for students who do not have computers at home. Information literacy skills aren’t only important for internet use. They help us comprehend and evaluate information we get from books, newspapers, magazines, radio, and television. These skills will help everyone be better prepared for jobs, hobbies, and parenting.
